DUT TO WELCOME 40 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ACROSS THE GLOBE FOR SEMESTER EXCHANGE

The International Education and Partnerships (IEP) Unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is excited to welcome approximately 40 exchange students from Germany, France, and China for the highly anticipated First Semester Exchange Students Orientation Programme. The First Semester Exchange Students Orientation Programme, scheduled for Tuesday, 4 February 2025, will be held at the DUT Hotel School Conference Room in Durban.

The orientation is designed to help students make a smooth transition to life at DUT by providing essential information about university resources and support services. Various units from DUT will be present to offer guidance and ensure students feel fully prepared for their academic journey. The programme also serves as an essential first step in ensuring that exchange students feel confident and comfortable as they embark on their academic journey in a foreign country.

This informative and interactive session is designed to help students adjust quickly to their new academic and social environment at DUT. During the programme, exchange students will:
• Learn about DUT’s student support services, such as academic assistance, health services, and cultural integration support.
• Receive academic advice to help them navigate their studies and make the most of their time at the university.
• Have the opportunity to meet fellow students from diverse backgrounds, fostering new friendships and a sense of community.

Ms Carol Newman, International Education Officer at DUT shared some light on the upcoming event and expressed her enthusiasm about the diverse group of students joining DUT for the semester, highlighting the unique opportunity for cultural exchange and global learning.

“We are expecting approximately 40 students from the following countries : Germany, France and China. The students will be welcomed by the Director of the International Education and Partnerships Office. Representatives from various departments (library, sports department, protection services, student counselling etc) will also be in attendance and give a presentation / talk on the services that are offered by their departments,” she said.

Ms Newman also emphasised the importance of cultural immersion during the orientation. She expressed her hope that the exchange students will fully embrace the vibrant cultural environment that DUT and Durban have to offer. A brief campus tour is also part of the programme, giving students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the university’s facilities and surroundings. This will help them feel more comfortable and confident as they begin their journey at DUT.
