The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has solidified its position as a leading research institution by receiving the prestigious Focused Research Advancement Award from the National Research Foundation (NRF). The award bestows significant recognition of DUT’s outstanding growth in research productivity and support over the past five years. The 2024 NRF Awards were recently held under the theme Celebrating 25 Years of Research, Innovation, Impact and Partnerships.
This latest accolade reinforced DUT’s commitment to impactful research, innovation and collaboration, reflecting the university’s alignment with its ENVISION2030 strategic framework. The ENVISION2030 strategy emphasises research excellence and innovation, positioning DUT as a forward-thinking university contributing to national and international progress. Professor Fulufhelo Nemavhola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement at DUT accepted the award on behalf of the university, at the Sun City Resort on 22 August 2024.
The NRF Focused Research Advancement Award is a testament to the dedication of DUT’s researchers, faculties and administration, who have worked tirelessly to advance research that not only addresses pressing issues but also, fosters innovation across multiple disciplines. From biotechnology to energy sustainability, researchers at DUT have consistently demonstrated a commitment to creating knowledge that drives positive change and helps to transform society.
