Lazola Dabula has landed her dream job as a presenter and assistant editor of a TV reality show called Roughing It Out which will be screened on SABC2’s Q Base 28 on 12 September 2011 at 16H30. The 26 episode -show will fill a weekly 30 minute slot. The shoot for 12 episodes was done in July.

Dabula was earlier this year named as the first black female student to receive a BTech degree in Video Technology at Durban University of Technology. She will be now based in Cape Town as the bulk of the show is being recorded in the Western Cape. Some of the episodes have been shot as far afield as the Garden Route and Central Karoo in the Eastern Cape.

Roughing It Out is a children’s outdoor reality show which educates youngsters about the environment and nature conservation. Children ranging from 10 to 13 years of age embark on challenges, so that they are able to survive independently in the wild. They are expected to build their own shelter, make fire and cook food. This involves 8 children split into 2 teams of 4. The best group wins a prize.

Dabula, from Umtata in the Eastern Cape, says that she has always wanted to do camera and behind the scenes work. After having been successfully auditioned in June, she is excited that she has now reached that point in her life when she is gladly taking up the challenge. “It’s a big start and a huge step considering that the show will be broadcast on prime time at 16H30. It’s really a good show and it’s going to be full of fun,” she said. She said it’s first outdoor kids’ reality show targeted at environmental awareness.

The show is filmed by Insync Productions and is directed by Younus Salie. The producer is Nazrene Salie.
