DUT Lunches with School Principals

Providing information about DUT’s life-changing study opportunities and its state of the art facilities to prospective students was the main idea behind the Annual Principals’ Luncheon that was hosted by the Student Recruitment Department at the Ritson Hotel School Conference Centre, Ritson Campus, last week (Friday, 17 October 2014).

The annual luncheon event was conceptualised five years ago as a means of showcasing DUT as well as the high quality of academic programmes and the facilities that are available for students at the University.
School principals, Life Orientation teachers, DUT executive deans and students were in attendance at the event and got a chance to tour the facilities in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Each faculty got an opportunity to present on its departments.

The Student Recruitment Department used the opportunity to inform prospective students about the study opportunities available at the University and the careers associated with these programmes. Themed A Student Centred University That Creates Great Minds”, the luncheon also provided the Department with a platform to showcase DUT as a first choice tertiary institution in KwaZulu-Natal and a leading university of technology in Africa.

Rodney Maharaj, Manager of the Student Recruitment Department, said the Department was excited to get more opportunities to inform and educate principals on each of the DUT facilities and programmes on offer, as well as ensure that those in attendance became ambassadors of the institution.

“We want them to go back to the schools and promote this to their pupils with the positive perception of the exciting and wonderful faculties that exist at DUT. Our mission is to ensure that we convince prospective students to make the right career choice and consider selecting DUT as a preferred institution of higher learning,” he said.
Sandile Mchunu, a Student Counsellor at Ixolo High School said the luncheon was exciting and educational. He said the information he got was of great value to his students because there were endless career opportunities if one chose to study at DUT.
