“I am so humbled and grateful with the results that I have achieved through hard work and dedication, however graduating cum laude is like a cherry on top of the cake,” said an elated Nosipho Mathaba.
The 23-year-old lass graduated Cum Laude, obtaining her Bachelor of Technology Degree in Engineering: Electrical (H/C) at the Spring Graduation ceremony held at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre today (4 September 2019).
Adding to her motivation was her parents, who always encouraged her to work hard and to never give up. Whenever she felt like she could not take the strain they were always there to support and motivate her.
Her most enjoyed part of her academic journey has been the conversations with her fellow classmates who had already had more exposure in a working environment. “These conversations prepared me to be a better person,” she stressed.
Mathaba stressed that the hardest part for her was the high volume of workload, and she had to stretch herself beyond boundaries to meet the deadlines. “The fun part was that I spent most of my time with friends as we were all students and studying together. I would not have achieved it without them so the credit goes to them as well,” she said.
Her course of study was always her first choice of study and the field she had always had a passion for when she was thinking about her future. She also added that she would readily recommend DUT to future students because of the quality of the product the institution produces. Her aim is to further her studies and obtain her Masters and thereafter a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering.
Her advice to other inspiring first-year students embarking on the same career path is to never give up. “You need to be resilient, committed, dedicated and never forget to put God first in everything you do,” she said.
