DUT’s Mchunu Gets Invite To Attend The 2019 Mining Indaba

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) BTech: Human Resources Management student Ntuthuko Mchunu has made DUT proud by being invited to the 2019 Mining Indaba Young Leaders Day to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on 7 February 2019.

The 2019 Mining Indaba is an event that gathers together young minds and also mining companies from all over the world, and it is solely dedicated to the successful capitalisation and development of mining interests in Africa, as well as to also introduce mining to young people through the Young Leaders envoy programme.

It is also dedicated to supporting education, career development, sustainable development, and other important causes in Africa. The programme is a great opportunity for University students, recent graduates and future leaders to gain access to leading mining executives, and learn more about the industry.

Mchunu is ecstatic to be invited to the prestigious event and believes that having exceptional leadership skills is the reason that he was asked to be part of the 2019 summit. “My role as a young University student will be to tackle issues that affect young investors in the mining sector. I will also talk about how we can bring young impoverished people to have an interest in the mining sector and how the companies can assist young people to invest in the mining industry,” he said.

He also believes that such events are very important for young people to attend as this can open up the doors to many other ventures and also in terms of networking.

“For the Mining Indaba 2019 , I didn’t even have to apply for it, as I was invited by a company called Learn and Give SA in partnership with Brunswick because they have seen my leadership capacity in the few years, as I had participated in the One Young World event held in the Netherlands, been part of the Young Leaders Initiative which is a Barack Obama Foundation programme, and I am also the coordinating ambassador in KwaZulu-Natal for the United Nations Association of South Africa (UNASA), which is the South African chapter of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).  My belief is that young people should partake in such events to learn from other young leaders from around the world and to share ideas on how to tackle the current status quo and how we as young people can go about into being the difference that we want,” he added.
