The Durban University of Technology’s Department of Public Relations Management held its annual awards ceremony for its top achievers at the Coastlands Hotel, Musgrave on Tuesday, 27 November 2018.
The annual award ceremony forms part of the PR department’s strategy to honour students who have excelled academically for that particular year. Welcoming the guests and students was DUT’s lecturer, Yachal du Plessis, who also congratulated all the winning recipients. “To the top performers of 2018, life is yet to start, excellence is never an accident,” she said.
Also present at the award ceremony was RadioDUT’s Station Manager and PR department’s alumni, Sibusiso Nxumalo, famously known as ‘JSbu’ on radio. Addressing the students, Nxumalo encouraged them to work hard and always do more then what they are expected to.
“If you have an idea try and do it but also learn from your failures because you will learn a lot more about yourself. PR is about relationships and communicating, learn to master that,” said Nxumalo.
Also imparting congratulatory messages to the students was the department’s level three WIL co-ordinator Dr Nalini Govindsamy. “These students have shown creative and critical thinking in their class assignments, including their WIL. Congratulations to all on your achievements,” she said.
