Congratulations to Professor Faizal Bux, the award-winning Director of the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) who was recently awarded the Senior Fellow Membership of the Water Institute of Southern Africa (SFWISA) award, for the dedication and support he has shown to WISA and the Water Sector over the course of his career in the sector.
He has won numerous awards over the years for his research work. His primary research area has been in the field of wastewater treatment and beneficiation, with emphasis on identifying wastewater as a resource rather than a pollutant.
In a letter addressed to Prof Bux, WISA Board Chair, Mr Dan Naidoo said it is his pleasure to inform him that the Board of WISA, at the last meeting approved his nomination by his peers to be awarded the Senior Fellow membership of the Water Institute of Southern Africa.
“This exceptional honour is not bestowed lightly and takes into account the consistency of support that you have shown WISA over a large number of years. It is however not restricted to support for WISA, but also takes note of the contributions you have made to the enhancement of the Water Sector overall, and the esteem that your actions have brought to the stature of the South African water industry. We would like to present the certificate of Senior Fellow membership to you at a special awards ceremony, the details of which will follow in due course. Should you not be able to attend we will make suitable arrangements to have your certificate handed-over,” said Naidoo.
He said Prof Bux is now proudly entitled to use the abbreviation of the SFWISA as part of his signature. Naidoo congratulated Prof Bux on being selected to receive this extra-ordinary honour.
Prof Bux is honoured to receive this prestigious award and feels it is another feather in the cap for the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) and DUT. He expressed his gratitude to the DUT management for their support over the years.
DUT’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement, Prof Sibusiso Moyo congratulated Prof Bux on his prestigious recognition.
“This shows your contribution over a number of years. Well done and keep up the inspirational work,” said Prof Moyo.
Short Course Unit Director at DUT, Prof Surenda Thakur also passed his congratulatory message to Prof Bux saying he is absolutely inspirational.
“You set a bar that makes us want to come to work and to continue to work. A rising tide lifts all ships. The Institute under your leadership is one of the reasons DUT is at Spring tide!” said Prof Thakur.
