Eight New Short Courses On Offer at CCPE

The Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) continues to strive and to provide lifelong learning opportunities at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

CCPE is proud to announce eight new short courses to the DUT community and its external stakeholders.

CCPE which operates as an outward-focused dynamic interface between the DUT and its external context, centrally manages and coordinates the University’s continuing education courses. The unit which was established in September 2014; offers courses ranging from single-day events to full degree programmes. CCPE also offers customised courses to help organisations build capability by either modifying one of the University’s existing courses or developing an entirely new one.

CCPE’s Director, Dr Colin Thakur said the unit continues to offer short courses which are aimed at improving and developing skills to meet changing workplace demands.

The newest approved short courses to be introduced are Business Statistics Tuition, Dinner Date: Cooking for Couples, Quick Nutritious Suppers, Entrepreneurial Cake Baking & Decoration, Business Ethics, Critical Thinking, Foundations of Leadership and Leadership and Technology.   Upon completion, finalised short course submissions are reviewed by the CCPE Board of Studies Committee (which meets monthly) for approval of a new course and or renewal of an existing course.

CCPE’s Philiswa Dlamini, added that these fun courses are informative and inspiring and enable one to explore new interests, develop new skills and improve existing skills. She also added that staff have become more open to running short courses, thus contributing towards the University’s third stream income strategy. Also, they (DUT staff) have realised the overall benefits of an extra income for themselves, their respective departments and faculties.

Short courses are currently available across the six DUT faculties, where the Applied Sciences Faculty is currently the championing faculty with the most, short course offerings between the departments of Maritime Studies, Clothing and Textile, Chemistry, Sports Studies, Statistics and most recently, Food and Nutrition.
