EPIZITONE ENCOURAGES WOMEN TO CONFRONT THEIR CHALLENGES AND FEARS WITH EVERYTHING THEY HAVE

EPIZITONE ENCOURAGES WOMEN TO CONFRONT THEIR CHALLENGES AND FEARS WITH EVERYTHING THEY HAVE

Speaking on her academic journey and winning the Top Published Masters Student of the Year Award for 2021 at the recent ENVISION2030 INSTITUTIONAL AWARDS was DUT’s Ayogeboh Epizitone, who is from the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics.

The proud Epizitone was all smiles upon receiving the good news and to add to that being women’s month, she explains why there is a vital need for female researchers at DUT and globally.

“The global space has opened up several opportunities to accommodate women in many fields that were male-dominated domains. While there are many challenges that women face and are laden with on a daily basis, however, that does not alter their potential. Personally, I believe women like myself have a choice to be defeated or confront their challenges and fears with everything they have,” she said.

For Epizitone, this was her approach to her achievement and research in particular. Although the journey was not smooth, the difference was evident in the end she gave it her best.

“I was further encouraged and thrilled when my publications attracted international interest and was invited to make contribute to a research theme at Info-Tech Research Group (Canada and USA). My contribution was featured in their output as well as their acknowledgement,” she added proudly.

Epizitone relays that her research goals and achievements have been centred on information technology and how it impacts many fields. Coming from a diverse background that incorporates the management sciences and technology, it has been her desire to explore the interrelationship between information technology and other fields such as accounting, finance, business and management.

Her ambition has further been driven by the emergence of the fourth and fifth industrial revolution that seeks to automate many organisational functions and applications. Hence, her research agenda from her undergraduate diploma has always been focused on these themes.

“To close the hiatus created by the proliferations of information and computer systems in an era where they seem to be fundamentally grounded in many industries. My first research project submitted to the institution of commercial management was titled: The simulation of big data to revolutionise the effectiveness of cooperate policies.
I have since advanced this agenda in my Masters project that looks at the integrated information systems particularly Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in relation to financial systems. Given that these systems are employed globally in many organisations,” she remarked.

However, Epizitone conveyed that her research has presented equal benefits and challenges to those adopting them.

“My thesis provides practical and managerial solutions to help tackle high failure rate and related challenges associated with these systems using diverse scientific computational methods,” she said.

Furthermore, by using a mixed method approached she has contributed to the body of knowledge on information systems and its applications. Epizitone is a primary contributor to the several publications that proposes and implement the use of sound scientific, rigorous computational methods on solving practical phenomenon.

Epizitone indicated that there are many prospects and benefits out there in the field for women who are ready to exploit their potential wherever they find themselves.

“I call on more females to embrace their challenges for they have potential to contribute greatly to any task that they committed themselves to and shape that space. In doing so not only will they grow, learn and advance they will also influence and transform a lot of lives as well as secure livelihoods of the society,” she expressed.

Currently, Epizitone is a PHD candidate researching on data sciences and integrated information system in the healthcare arena.
