Date: 15 October 2015
Time: 12:00 to 13:30
Venue: ESBE Boardroom, L3, S4, S Block, Steve Biko Campus- Entrance from
gate 2.

About the Presentation

“The essential challenge is to transform the isolation and self-interest of our communities into connectedness and caring for the whole” Peter Block
Join us for a fascinating experiential conversation on how this transformation occurs simply by shifting our attention from the problems of community to the possibility of community. Communities have been fragmented and yearn for a sense of belonging, and an end to the isolation and self-interest that has been so pervasive and so destructive
When we think of community, especially poor and marginalised ones we think of them as a problem to be fixed rather than as having any social capital to create a future distinct from the past. How we engage communities and amplify their authentic voices is a process that has become the hallmark of a new way of being in the world and initiating social transformation.
Each participant will leave with a new sense of awareness of how our perceptions, values and beliefs shape our lives and millions of others who are in our sphere of influence. Each of us contributes to the stories we hear and repeat about community. Would you like to change your story?
