Abstract – Gabriella Peppas and Jonas Barausse began Interpret Durban in 2010. What started as a simple t-shirt design contest with 15 artists participating and a pair of sneakers for 1st place has since grown into Durban’s most established youth creative contest boasting 5 categories including Architecture, Graphic Design, Visual Art, Video and photography with an accumulated prize value in excess of R200 000. No small feat. The event now draws students and scholars alike to participate in the contest as well as young professional’s keen to test their muscle and measure themselves up against their home town peers. But it’s become about more than that. Interpret Durban has become an event for Durban and by Durban. A chance for Durban’s creatives to reflect on the city they call home through their art and then showcase that art to their fellow citizens allowing them a unique and fresh perspective on the place they call home. It’s not every day you can attend an event focused around showcasing a city through the eyes of its young and up and coming creatives, and perhaps that is why Interpret Durban has become so anticipated as each event comes by. This year’s event (Interpret Durban 7) is going to be held on August 20th and promises to be the most solid instalment yet. Ever eager to share their passion Jonas and Gabi will be coming through to discuss their event and other initiative with us on the 17th August. This is one you don’t want to miss.
Please feel free to share this invitation to others who might be interested.
