Bio: Dr Ferina Marimuthu is an accomplished and seasoned professional with over two decades of extensive experience in higher education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with relevant qualifications and publications in Accounting. Ferina is a distinguished scholar who has received merit awards in her undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications for Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Outstanding B.Tech student. She has authored several accounting textbooks and reviewed for both local and international publishing houses. This has been the impetus for her active involvement in research in the fields of accounting and finance. Ferina is supervising several students, specialising in Accounting and Finance. She believes that through her supportive, engaged and constructive supervisory skills, her students will have the necessary skills to meet the needs of the accounting profession and the private and public sector. Ferina has to her credit, several publications comprising of DHET accredited journals articles, conference proceedings, book chapters and accounting textbooks. She acts as an editorial board member and reviewer for many reputable journals and sits on the scientific committee and or reviews for conferences both locally and internationally including SAAA, ICGA, EBEE and INTED. Bio: She is an academic who has served 20 years in various roles, junior lecturer, lecturer, senior lecturer, and Head of Department (Acting) during May 2019 – March 2021 to seventeen staff members and over 3 000 students in the Department of Financial Accounting at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Durban, RSA. Her teaching area straddles across Cost and management accounting and financial accounting at undergraduate level. Her PhD was completed with the support of two scholarships; NRF (Department of Science and Technology) 2018 and DUT Postgraduate Grant 2017. She also obtained a second NRF scholarship in 2019.  She has published in DHET accredited Scopus journals, and a co-author to a published decolonized textbook.  Her research area and supervision cuts across the disciplines of Financial accounting (IFRS based); Auditing – Corporate governance, Applied ethics, Ethical leadership, Educational leadership and Employee engagement. She is a member of Professional Accountant (SA) with a passion for the theoretical and practical aspects of financial accounting, auditing, educational leadership and management.  She was selected to be part of the Responsible Research and Innovation Networked Globally (RRING) research project supported by Europe Union (EU), which is a collaborative global community of researchers who focus on the best practices for research and science.

Research Focus Area: My areas of research interest are accounting research, curriculum development, teaching-research-practice nexus and any related praxis in the discipline to living theory and ethnology. I have used a systems thinking methodology in my study so anything linked thereto is of interest to me too.
