Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) in collaboration with DUT Business School at Durban University of Technology (DUT) held their second Annual FMS Sport Day, filled with tense action as participants battled for the top spot. The event was recently held at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko campus in Durban.
The event brought together students and staff to have fun, healthy competition, entertainment, and spirit of unity.

Participants competed in football, volleyball, athletics, tug-of-war, chess, mlabalaba, andaerobics. While one of the best female DJs, DJ Happy Girl kept the crowd energised with fantastic music throughout the day alongside Siyabonga Madida famously known as ‘Heazy’ from Gagasi FM who was the programme director for the day.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, officially opened the event, acknowledging the sponsors, participants, and special guests, including Uzalo cast members, AmaZulu FC players and coach Arthur Zwane, Gagasi FM, and Izwi LoMzansi. He also led a moment of silence in memory of the late DUT students, Manqoba Mnyandu and Siphiwokuhle Madela.
Highlighting the importance of the DUT and AmaZulu FC partnership, the club’s Director of Football, Pedro Dias, praised the initiative as a powerful way to unite and uplift the community, while sharing resources and opportunities.
Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Melanie Lourens, applauded the organising committee for their tremendous effort, working tirelessly for past four months to ensure that they deliver a successful event. She also thanked sponsors for their support.
Public Relations student Philisa Mtshezana celebrated her team’s volleyball victory, she said that although it was challenging but they worked as a team and claimed the top spot. She also highlighted how such initiatives assist them as students in fostering teamwork, wellness, and stress relief from academic pressures.
The event ended with an awarding ceremony which was led by Professor Netswera. All the winners received trophies, medals and gift bags each for their outstanding performance. Also, the participants including the audience received the DUT branded t-shirts, and refreshments.
