Bio: Dr Darlington lectures Structural Detailing as well as Design Project (structures). He holds a D. Ing. degree (Water Engineering) at the University of Johannesburg, an MSc (Eng). in Civil Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg and B-Eng., Honours degree in Civil Engineering. Dr. Darlington has worked with industry and was part of the water reticulation design team in Port Elizabeth South Africa. He has vast experience in reservoir siting, water reticulation systems, structural design of multi-storey buildings and is professionally registered as an Engineer.

Area of expertise or research & innovation areas: My research interests are in hydrology, hydrological modelling, hydraulics (HECRAS and TUFLOW) water and wastewater engineering, environmentally friendly solutions, water supply and urban drainage, water resources engineering and lastly, Energy and Climate change.

Bio: My names are Jacob Olumuyiwa Ikotun. I am the acting head, department of Civil Engineering, Midlands. Durban University of Technology, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. I obtained my Ph.D. (2017), M.Sc. (2010 and 2003) and B.Eng. (1998) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa; University of Dundee, Dundee, United Kingdom; University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria and Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria respectively. My research interest includes durability, sustainability, service life modelling and construction systems of RC structures, the areas where I published peer reviewed international journals and conference articles. I am a member of South Africa Institution of Civil Engineers (SAICE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM).

I have also served as the SAICE representation to the department for 14yrs.

In addition, I also serve in many different capacities such as academic advisor, mentoring for professional registration and industry representative on behalf of the Department.

Bio: Mr Samuel Senzo Mtshali has been employed in the Department for the past 18 years as a Laboratory Assistant. Mr Mtshali completes various tasks in the laboratory, in particular as a survey assistant for the module Surveying for Civil Engineering (SCVE201) in the 280 credit Diploma (DICVE1). In addition to, he also assists the other technicians with tasks in the laboratory, plus assists the department during registration. Mr Mtshali is an experienced handyman and the evidence of his work is visible throughout the Midlands Civil Engineering laboratories.
