Fashion, An Important Element Of Graduation!

Fashion, An Important Element Of Graduation!

Tailored suits, designer dresses, lace fabrics, bedazzled nails, the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics dressed to ‘impress’ at the Durban University of Technology’s Faculty of Accounting and Informatics graduation session, at the DUT Fred Crookes Sports Centre, today.

Graduands graduated with a great sense of pride but also made sure that their fashion sense and style was just as good as their number-crunching skills.  The young lads also made great fashion efforts to ensure that their suits were of immaculate quality. Some opted for traditional attire, with Xhosa and IsiZulu colours dominating in such garments.

Sporting red hairstyles, twins Chantell and Charmaine Madiya graduated with their National Diplomas in Internal Auditing, equally achieving Cum Laude. Both ensured they looked ‘aesthetically good’ before they walked the stage for their moment of glory.

BTech Internal Auditing fashionista Lungile Shezi said fashion formed an integral part of her planning for her graduation day. “I designed my own dress within the shortest time of three days but I did not compromise on wanting to stand out. Having a bright, yellow lace dress was a priority for me and I am happy with the results. When you on stage one has to shine and I aimed for that,” she said happily.

Designer Abongile Sigwebela looked stunning in her black and white traditional dress with a matching clutch purse and necklace. The gorgeous wife of BTech Corporate Administration graduate Khulekani Sigwebela said she came out in traditional wear to support her husband. Her choice of traditional wear is of a personal choice. I am Xhosa and my husband is isiZulu, so my dress has a combination of both traditional colours embedded in one outfit. I used the Xhosa colour blend of black and white with an array of multi-coloured isiZulu beadings for the necklace and bag. I believe dressing up whether western or traditional is important, but it is important to also look with a sense of pride,” said an elated Sigwebela.

All in all, the day was a huge ‘fashion’ success with graduates continuing their celebrations with family and friends, marking the end of a momentous event in their academic lives.
