The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, continues to make great strides in advancing student employability and industry readiness. The Department of Information and Corporate Management, under the leadership of Professor Smangele Pretty Moyane, has recently been awarded an additional allocation of R16 250 000 million from the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET) for the 2025/2026 Higher Education and Training Work Integrated Learning (HET WIL) Programme.
This funding will benefit 250 learners, with each student receiving a stipend of R65 000 over a 12-month period. The initiative forms part of FASSET’s commitment to enhancing workplace learning and skills development in line with the Skills Development Act and FASSET’s Discretionary Grants Policy.
Professor Moyane expressed her gratitude for the continued partnership with FASSET, noting that the allocation will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world experience. “This award is a testament to DUT’s strong relationship with industry partners and our dedication to preparing graduates who are work-ready and capable of contributing meaningfully to the economy,” she said.
The funding will support the recruitment, placement, and mentorship of learners within various organisations, offering them hands-on experience aligned with their academic disciplines. The programme, which officially commences on 1 November 2025, reinforces DUT’s ongoing commitment to the national skills development agenda and the university’s ENVISION2030 strategy, which prioritises people-centredness, innovation, and excellence in higher education.
