Former Student Representative Council (SRC) member Fezeka Majombozi, a 23-year-old from Mbongolwane, Eshowe, celebrated a proud academic achievement after she graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Sciences in Business Law at the 2026 Autumn Graduation ceremony of Durban University of Technology (DUT), which was held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday, 23 May 2026.
“Graduating Cum Laude has always been my dream and achieving it has further fuelled my passion for my master’s studies. In my master’s, I am aiming for the Dean’s Merit Award. Believing in yourself and recognising your strengths can take you far,” Majombozi expressed.
Over the past few years, her journey at DUT has been shaped by more than just academic success. She had an opportunity to serve for two consecutive years on the DUT SRC as the Sports and Recreation Officer.
Majombozi has built a purposeful academic path rooted in her long-standing passion for legal, corporate, and governance matters. She reflected on a journey of determination, discipline, and a clear vision for her future. Her goal is not only to succeed in the field but to push forward into doctoral studies, specialising in business law and governance, areas she believes are critical for ethical leadership and institutional accountability.
Throughout her academic career, Majombozi maintained a proactive approach to her studies, consistently positioning herself as both a student and a problem-solver. She stated that the journey had been challenging but emphasised that maintaining a solution-oriented mindset had made a significant difference.
She also pointed out that accessing help, asking questions, and engaging with DUT’s support systems played an important role in her success. She also praised lecturers and Heads of Department for creating a supportive environment where students feel heard and valued.
Majombozi has also been an active participant in student leadership, a role she has taken on with seriousness and purpose. Although this responsibility has demanded a great deal of her time and energy, leaving little room for outside employment, she remains focused on her academic and professional development.
She is currently pursuing a Master of Management Sciences in Business Law while also serving as a Residence Advisor (RA), where she plays an active role in ensuring that students’ welfare, academic support, and overall well-being are taken care of. Through her leadership role, she continues to mentor and support students, helping them adapt to university life and creating a positive living and learning environment.
“The DUT living valuers that I uphold is transparency because it is a value I hold close, seeing it as the foundation upon which all other institutional values honesty, integrity, accountability, and respect. Without transparency, these values collapse under the weight of inconsistency,” she explained.
She describes it as a space where hard work meets personal growth, and where every challenge comes with a lesson that helps shape her into the leader, she is today. As she prepares to step into the next chapter of her journey, she does so with gratitude for the experiences that tested and strengthened her.
Giving advice to first-year students, she encouraged them to make use of the services offered by DUT, which are designed to equip them with essential academic and personal development skills. She also urged students to familiarise themselves with the DUT Writing Centre, located across five campuses, adding that face-to-face consultations can be highly beneficial.
