Muhammad Abdallah Goburdhun, from Mauritius, graduated with his Bachelor of Health Sciences Cum Laude in Chiropractic at the 2024 Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation ceremony, held at the Olive Convention Centre, Durban on 21 May 2024.
Obtaining Cum Laude is highest academic achievement that he has obtained thus far and gives credit to DUT for enabling students to excel.
“Graduating with Cum Laude from DUT is a pinnacle of achievement for me. It embodies years of dedication, perseverance, and the dynamic support of my mentors, family, and friends. It signifies not only academic excellence but also the values of the community and collaboration that DUT instills in its students,’’ he said.
He further referred to his journey at DUT as a blissful one, filled with personal growth, and various career opportunities. “My journey at DUT has not only been about academic pursuits but also about personal growth and forging lifelong connections. I am deeply grateful for the support and opportunities afforded to me by DUT, and for shaping me into the professional I aspire to be,’’ he said.
Among DUT ENVISION2030 living values and principles Goburdhun aligns with are honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. “These values are not just principles to adhere to but guiding lights that shape my interactions within the university community and beyond,’’ he added.
As an international student, adapting to a new environment in another country was very challenging, Goburdhun had to work extra hard to attain his success. “Moving to a different and new environment amidst the pandemic was daunting. Balancing academic rigor with homesickness tested my resolve. Yet, overcoming these hurdles strengthened my resilience and adaptability,’’ he said.
He also lauded his family for support and sacrifices which saw him prevail through the challenges. “Their unwavering support and sacrifices have been the bedrock of my journey, and to witness their happiness is truly gratifying,’’ he added.
Currently, Goburdhun is pursuing a Master of Health Sciences in Chiropractic. “I want to become a compassionate and proficient chiropractor dedicated to alleviating pain and promoting wellness within the community,’’ he concluded.
