Govender Encourages Women To Do Business Law At DUT

Preleen Govender feels excited, honored and privileged to be the one of the first graduates for the Business Law programme.

This morning (Saturday, 11 May 2019), the intelligent lass graduated Cum Laude with the Deans Merit Award for her National Diploma in Business Law, at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.

She said that she had thoroughly enjoyed doing the programme which introduces students to the main aspects of Business Law and the compliance function within an organisation.

“It is designed to provide students with an understanding of the law relating to business in general and contracts in particular, as well as the specific standards, regulations and requirements in terms of relevant legislation, and its application, in order to enable students to analyse and solve problems relating to an organisation’s compliance,” she said.

She added that students are exposed to the various aspects of the law relevant to business and management. “In my final year of study we focused on managing purchasing, procurement, contracts management and compliance. This assisted us in understanding Business Law, in general, as well as aspects on compliance. Seeing my hard work pay off in terms of my marks and now graduating Cum Laude with the Deans Merit award, is very rewarding for me,” she added.

Govender, whose mom works for the TENUSA union office at DUT, hopes more women would choose to do the dynamic Business Law programme. “DUT has very experienced lecturers and staff, and the course itself, is very empowering. Especially for women to be outspoken and to stand up for what is right and their beliefs,” she stressed.

The hard – working 21 – year – old is currently doing her BTech in Business Law and hopes to continue further and also obtain her Masters in Business Law, going forward.
