HADEBE HAS ALWAYS DESIRED TO GRADUATE WITH CUM LAUDE

Obtaining Cum Laude for his Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation was a bonus for Sbusiso Hadebe who will be among the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics graduates who will be honoured at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Celebratory Autumn Graduation Ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC), on Thursday, 14 July 2022.

The 23-year-old Hadebe from G section at Umlazi is currently based in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape where he received a great opportunity to complete his articles with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC).

His journey at DUT began in 2017 when he enrolled for his National Diploma in Accounting and went on to do his Advanced Diploma in Taxation. He said this is where Taxation became a part of his life, leading him to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation.

“Choosing Taxation was one of the greatest decisions I ever made in my life because as we discussed with my lecturer, Mr Reddy many opportunities opened up during the time I was completing it. By September, last year I was doing interviews with firms in order to complete my articles in tax. In November I was offered a three-year contract with PwC to do my SAIT articles. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and thanks to Mr Reddy for his guidance and support,” said Hadebe.

Speaking about his great results, Hadebe said he had a dream to complete his studies with Cum Laude so achieving this dream has been unbelievable and came as extraordinary news to him.

“My family was very proud of me and very grateful for my accomplishment which has shed some light on my capabilities and how far they can take me. I am looking forward to the physical graduation as it was heart-breaking to miss my Advanced Diploma graduation due to COVID-19,” said Hadebe.

Looking back to his life as a student, Hadebe said he did not face many challenges as he was able to integrate into the University lifestyle with ease because his main focus was on doing better on his studies and not taking for granted the chance he got to study at DUT.

He plans to further his studies and obtain a Master’s in Taxation and go as further as obtaining a PhD in Taxation. In the future, Hadebe said together with his brother, they are planning to open an Assurance, Auditing and Tax services firm to help black owned businesses in South Africa, starting with their township, Umlazi.
