The Bergville lass, Bandile Mavimbela, could not contain her excitement upon her graduating with her Public Administration specialising in Disaster and Risk Management at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2026 Autumn Graduation ceremony, at the Olive convention centre on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
Graduating and receiving Cum Laude and the esteemed Dean’s Merit award made me feel proud, grateful, and motivated because it showed that my hard work, discipline, and sacrifices were worth it,” she said elatedly.
Her family was extremely emotional and proud as they had witnessed the effort and dedication behind her achievements.
Bandile spoke of her journey at DUT which began in 2023, saying that it has been both challenging and rewarding. “The course I had studied is a course that has helped me understand governance, leadership, policy development, and community service,” she explained.
She further expressed her sincere gratitude to Dr Mal Reddy, who has been one of the greatest supporters throughout her academic journey.
“Your guidance, encouragement, and belief in my potential motivated me to keep pushing forward even during difficult moments. Thank you so much for inspiring growth, confidence, and resilience in both my studies and personal development,” she beamingly said.
Like many students, Bandile faced some challenges such as financial pressure, academic stress, and adapting to university life, but she remained focused and determined to succeed.
“I plan to further my studies in order to expand my knowledge and career opportunities and I’m currently pursuing my Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at DUT. My goal is to become a professional public administrator and leader who contributes to effective governance and community development,” she shared.
Her advice to first-year students pursuing this career is to remain curious, disciplined, and open to learning beyond the classroom. “Build strong communication with lecturers, ask questions whenever you do not understand, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth,” Bandile expressed.
