High Hopes for DUT Netball Team

This week, the DUT Netball Team competed in the University Sport South Africa (USSA) National Netball Tournament where they are hoping to to make the University proud.

The Netball Tournament is happening within the USSA National Sports Tournament in which all SA universities are competing. The games, which are taking place at the University of Cape Town, started on Monday this week and end today (Friday, 8 July 2016).

“We hope to do better than last year,” said Pamela Magubane, DUT Netball Team Manager and third-year DUT Sports Management student. “Last year we didn’t do well because a new team, that was not familiar (with participating in a major competition) was playing. Our coach was nonetheless proud of us,” said Magubane.

While Nompumelelo Dlamini, first-year Sports Management student, was nervous about competing in a big tournament as this was the first for her (playing in a big competition), she was nonetheless excited about the trip and experience.

Thobile Dlamini, also first-year Sports Management student, was optimistic about the team’s performance in the tournament, saying that she believes that the team would perform well. “I think we’ll do well as a team. We gel as a team so I think we’ll do good,” she said.

The DUT Netball Team comprises 12 members with two team captains; Thandeka Mazibuko, third-year Language Practice student, and Snenhlanhla Ntshangase, third-year Sports Management student.
