Since the adoption of the Living Values (LV) Framework, the Human Capital Services (HCS) ambit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) under the Senior Director, Mr Mxolisi Msomi has adopted an initiative which sets aside time to do something special, in line with the LV Framework.
On Friday, 30 June 2023, HCS went out on a Living Values painting campaign, using paint to express their commitment to the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework.
“These initiatives are implemented on a quarterly basis and sometimes more frequent depending on the need and circumstances. The purpose of this initiative was to mobilise staff at HCS behind the Living Values Framework in a fun and engaging way,” said Mr Avhatakali Nenungwi: Director for Organisational Development and Talent Management as he explained more on the LV framework drive.
Furthermore, the team at HCS started the painting work by creatively designing the concrete benches and tables by the waiting area at the Trosmo building, Housing, HCS and Finance.
Mr Nenungwi added that the team went on to paint the Values and Principles on the walkways to the Library at Steve Biko campus, including the green benches under the big tree by Gate three of Steve Biko Campus.
The highlight of the living values beautification initiative was when the team added some colour on the stairs leading to the Open House building across Steve Biko campus.
“The Living Values Framework is a foundation of DUT’s espoused culture of people-centredness and entrepreneurship. The painting initiative was very deliberate in that, it beings a process of embedding the Values and Principles into the look and feel of the environments that we work in. The painted areas will serve as a long-lasting reminder of what we stand for as a team and an organisation, this will also serve as a message to others who visit our work environment. The painted areas also serve as conversation starter amongst members of our teams and other stakeholders who visit our areas of work,” he said.
The session resulted into some impressive painting that continue to create awareness to the Values and Principles, beyond the HCS ambit. The event also served as a team building exercise for members of the Human Capital Services team from Durban and Midlands. Staff had fun together as they exercised their creative side while creatively designing their work environment.
According to Mr Nenungwi, the Living Values painting session inspired the team to do more and better. He added that they have received positive feedback about the paint work and they have decided to embrace the feedback by continuing with the painting initiative again on Friday, 07 July 2023, from 09:00 to 15:00.
In his conclusion, Mr Nenungwi urged other ambits to join in with their painting initiative and other Living Values initiatives while the university counts down to the Living Values Framework official launch event taking place on 18 to 21 July 2023.
