#I AM DUT FOR LIFE

Bernadette Lucille Kisten is one of three sisters who made the Durban University of Technology (DUT) her preferred choice of study.

She is merely following in the footsteps of her siblings like her elder sister, Simone Theresa Kisten who graduated with her Bachelor of Technology in Cost and Management Accounting at DUT and is aiming to do her CIMA board exams with the global professional management accounting body, next year.

Her second sister, Meghan Jernelle Kisten is currently completing her third-year Diploma in Videography and will be graduating at DUT, next year in 2023.

Bernadette Kisten is one of the graduates who graced the graduation stage at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Celebratory Autumn Graduation ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on Monday, 18 July 2022.

She obtained her Higher Certificate in Culinary Skills with Cum Laude.

She was extremely excited and nervous and could not contain her excitement when she graduated today. Kisten now works as a Kitchen manager at an Eatery in Gateway, and credits having her certificate which has allowed her to gain such an opportunity and gain experience in Culinary Skills.

Her dad, DUT’s Audio Visual Officer, Morgen Kisten said he is very proud of his daughter for her excellent results.

A delighted mom, Lindsay Kisten expressed her excitement upon hearing of her daughter’s amazing achievement.

“Not many have that opportunity to study, I myself did not have that opportunity, so we support our children in every effort. No matter what certificate it is or graduation it is, its an achievement and only by God’s grace can you achieve that,” she said elatedly.

Chancellor at DUT, Ms Nonkululeko Nyembezi echoed her congratulatory message to all graduates, saying that it was her utmost wish that all graduates remain connected with their lecturers, friends and classmates.

“Remain steadfast as I am in the knowledge that your DUT education and the relationships you made, the learning you achieved and the experiences you had during your time at DUT will serve you well in years to come,” she said.
