The Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Qeda Vezumuzi from Kwanyavu, Mkhambathini, graduated with his Degree of Bachelor of Technology in Engineering; Civil Specialising in Transportation Engineering at the DUT Celebratory Autumn graduation in Pietermaritzburg, Royal Showgrounds on Tuesday, 26 July 2022.

Speaking of his journey at DUT, he commented that it was blissful and full of great experiences. The challenges that he encountered during his studies was studying whilst working at Nongoma Local Municipality as a Civil Technician while attending his classes at the DUT Indumiso campus in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg. Every time he had an exam he had to drive from Nongoma to DUT Indumiso campus. During weekdays he sometimes could not attend his classes because of the work that he does.

The amazing lecturers and friends he met at DUT contributed immensely to the escalation of his love for his choice of study. He also appreciated the fact that the university was able to make means to ensure that the academic year is not compromised when the pandemic broke out. Having a close relationship with his classmates really helped him as they assisted him with his school work while he was at Nongoma. Socialising with the right people really contributed to his achievement.

“I had no life during the week because I had to focus on my professional work and also school work. During the weekend I had to put all my energy and attention towards my studies. However, I made it to my destination,” he explained.

Zulu is very excited that he was graduating today that’s why he couldn’t stop dancing. He is planning on furthering his studies. His main goal is to grow as an individual and seeing people around him winning brings a smile to his face.

“To students who wish to enrol on this field of study I would like to say surround yourself with people whom have the same vision of thriving and also with the people who are always willing to grow and become better people. In this field you just have to learn to work with people because even our work environment needs people to work together every time. Focus on your studies, if you can dream about it you can achieve it,” concluded Zulu.
