International Day of People with Disabilities

International Day of People with Disabilities

“Progressive universities recognise they must go above and beyond what the law requires to include students with disabilities on campus.” – (Landis, 2019:18). In the context of DUT, 3rd December 2019 marks another milestone within the collective journey towards higher-profiling disabilities as a strategic imperative. And this talks to the Society Perspective of the DUT 2030 Strategy – particularly the two relevant objectives, viz. an Engaged University; as well as Adaptive Graduates. Hence, also the recent launch of distance education by our Teaching and Learning Portfolio could safely be regarded as aligned with better practice? That initiative talks to the Systems and Processes Perspective of our DUT 2030 Strategy and all three objectives, viz. Innovative Curricula; Digital Environment; and State-of-the-Art-Infrastructure.

Therefore, in line with the broader global community, our institution is observing 3rd December as one of the initiatives we embark on in further sensitizing the DUT staff about strategic imperative of disabilities within our midst.
