INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS JOIN DUT FOR THE 2025 FIRST SEMESTER

The International Education and Partnerships office at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) welcomed a total number of 40 exchange students from Germany, France and China. The Exchange Students Orientation session was held at the DUT Hotel School Conference Room, Ritson campus in Durban on Tuesday, 04 February 2025.

This programme was designed to help students make a smooth transition to life at DUT by providing essential information about university resources and support services. Various units from DUT were present to offer guidance and ensure students feel fully prepared for their academic journey. The programme also serves as an essential first step in ensuring that the exchange students feel confident and comfortable as they embark on their academic journey in a foreign country.

In his official welcome, Dr Lavern Samuels, Director of International Education and Partnerships, congratulated the new students who arrived at DUT from all over the world and encouraged them to embrace the cultural variety of this nation.

“I hope that this experience will enrich you academically and have an intercultural experience.   Experience Durban, South Africa for all it has to offer as there is tremendous richness in this country. You will find good experiences that will allow you to reflect on this period and have good memories to share with the world,” said Dr Samuels.

Presentations were made by representatives from different units including the library, student health, student counselling, sports department  and a medical aid representative.  These presentations outlined the importance of each department and how to access their services.

DUT Librarian, Dr Patrick Mhlongo introduced Library staff, subject librarians and all the services they provide to students including WIFI, study rooms etc.

The event proceeded with a presentation’s from DUT Sport Officer, Mr Yandisa Mdolomba followed by Student Counselling Psychologist, Ms Candice McCain and Senior Professional Nurse, Caren Jagessar.

International Education Officer at DUT, Ms Carol Newman, then closed the function and thanked everyone who attended and those who had assisted in the planning and ensured that the event was a great success. A delicious lunch was served while the new students interacted with the each other and the DUT IEP staff.
