Invite to ‘Homeless’ Screening

The Urban Futures Centre at the Durban University of Technology (UFC@DUT) together with the University’s Faculty of Arts and Design, will be hosting a public screening of the short film ‘Homeless’ by Durban based writer and director, Nathan Rice. This film has been nominated for the Student Academy Awards 2016. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion with Nathan Rice.

Synopsis

The film is about a young man and his little brother who are forcefully removed from their home in an informal settlement. The film follows their journey as they follow the dream of finding their long lost mother who used to be a musician. Along the way, they meet many other homeless people and come across many challenges that try to distract them from their goal.

Biography

Nathan Rice is a young filmmaker who grew up in Kranskop, KZN. He has been making films since the age of thirteen. In 2013, he moved to Durban to study film. His short graduation film “Homeless” has been selected as a consideration for the Student Academy Awards which takes place in September this year (2016).

Currently, Rice is freelancing as a director for commercials and music videos while working towards getting feature films made.
