It was a proud moment for the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’S) former Student Representative Council (SRC) member, Njabulo Kalushi Ntshaba. Ntshaba served as an Education and Transformation Officer in the Midlands in 2021/2023.
The 28-year-old graduated for his Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, a course he is passionate about. Ntshaba received his third qualification at the Durban University of Technology 2023 Autumn Graduation that was held on Tuesday afternoon (16 May 2023) at Indumiso Campus, Pietermaritzburg.
Originally from Sobantu in Pietermaritzburg, Mr Ntshaba had a very challenging journey as he had to balance his academic activities and leadership roles. He was also a National Executive Committee member (NEC) of the South African Union of Students (SAUS) whilst he was an SRC member. All these responsibilities demanded his full attention and he had to excel in all of them. Being resilient and dedicated to his work pushed him to perform well. He shared that he plans to further his studies as he has applied for his Master’s Degree and is currently waiting to have a supervisor allocated for him.
It was not really an easy journey for Njabulo but the support he got from his family and friends motivated him to overcome the challenges he was facing. He mentioned Mr Samora Ndlovu, the ANC Moses Mabhida Regional Secretary as his mentor and Mr Thembinkosi Zondi who motivated and encouraged him to focus on his studies. Ntshaba is thankful for Mr Ndlovu and Mr Zondi for giving him their time on their busy schedules when he needed advises from them. Njabulo mentioned that his goal is to complete his Master’s Degree and contribute his services in transforming society and changing people’s lives as an organic intellectual through education he as obtained.
“With education you will never go wrong, they must focus on their studies while championing the interest of the students of which is access and success. It’s not an easy journey, but it’s possible to balance the two if you are committed and focused,” he said.
