JOY AS FORMER DUT SRC PROJECT OFFICER GRADUATES

Being the first daughter and granddaughter to study motivated Nothando Pearl Nsusha to perform well and complete her National Diploma in Accounting. The 21-year-old from eMthwalume, in the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal is a 2021/22 Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Student Representative Council (SRC) Project Officer. She graduated this morning during the faculty of Accounting and Informatics 2023 Autumn Graduation held at the Indumiso Campus Hall, Midlands earlier today (16 May 2023).

This was a proud moment for Miss Nsusha. She has been longing for this moment her entire life. Her wish of walking down the graduation stage came true and for her family to witness the moment with her it was really a joyful moment for the Nsusha family.

Miss Nsusha explained that being a student and a Project Officer for the SRC was a huge challenge, but she overcame the challenges through the support of her friends, family and other SRC members. Another challenge that she faced during her time as a student, was not getting any allowances in the first semester of her first year. She had to depend on her parents to give her some money to buy basic things to get through the month.

“I have faced so many challenges during my period in the SRC. Challenges like, having to balance my social life and academics at the same time. Dealing with student issues can be but I had to soldier on and make it happen. I had to learn to manage my time swiftly,” she said.

She plans to further her studies but not in the Accounting field. She plans to study Information Technology.

“My advice that I would give to the current SRC is that, have someone you trust and offload the challenges you come across with, someone who will advise you without any judgement and with wisdom, “ she advised.

Ms Nsusha urges all her fellow SRC members who are still doing their undergraduate studies to ensure that they complete their studies while assisting and championing students’ matters.
