At just 23 years of age, Kelly Naidoo, hailing from Chatsworth, Durban, stood proudly among the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) 2025 graduates at the Olive Convention Centre on Monday, 26 May 2025, having achieved Cum Laude and the prestigious Dean’s Merit Award for her Diploma in Business and Information Management.
Reflecting on this milestone, Naidoo credits her success first and foremost to her faith.
“I would like to give all glory to God. It is by His grace and guidance that I have reached this point. He knows the plans he has for us, and I am grateful to be living out part of that plan today.”
Naidoo began her academic journey at the Durban University of Technology in 2021, during a time of global uncertainty and transition. Navigating the sudden shift to online learning, Naidoo faced early challenges including language barriers and adapting to group work in a virtual environment. Yet through it all, DUT’s supportive environment and her own perseverance saw her grow into a confident, capable, and professional young graduate.
“Studying at DUT was truly a life-changing experience, it shaped me both personally and professionally,” she explained.
Naidoo’s commitment and excellence is firmly grounded in DUT’s core values, particularly professionalism, a principle she now carries forward in every aspect of her life and work.
“Professionalism was emphasised not only in our coursework but also in how we were taught to conduct ourselves. That is a value I will carry with me forever.”
One of the most memorable moments of her academic journey came when she shared the news of her Cum Laudeachievement and Dean’s Merit award with her family.
“They were overwhelmed with joy. It was incredibly emotional,” Naidoo recalls. “My mother, who has always been my biggest supporter, reminded me throughout my studies to work hard and persevere, even during the toughest times. Her belief in me carried me through,” she explained.
Business and Information Management was not just a convenient choice it was Naidoo’s first choice, rooted in her passion for business and its intersection with technology. The Diploma offered her the ideal mix of management knowledge and information systems, preparing her for her next chapter.
Naidoo is exploring the option of pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration, a step she believes will sharpen her skills and broaden her career prospects. She aspires to thrive in roles such as business management, project coordination, or business analysis and in the long term, grow into leadership positions where she can make a meaningful impact.
To those just starting their journey, Kelly offers sage advice: “Stay consistent, manage your time wisely, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Build strong networks, take every opportunity to learn, and remember hard work and resilience pay off.”
As she steps boldly into the corporate world, Naidoo remains a shining example of what determination, faith, and dedication can achieve. She leaves DUT not only with accolades but with a heart full of gratitude and hope for the future.
“I am excited for what lies ahead and proud to be a DUT graduate. Thank you to DUT for the nurturing and empowering environment it truly made all the difference,” she said.
