Kerisha Tiara Moonsamy prides herself in obtaining Cum Laude and the prestigious Dean’s Merit Award for her Honours in Mechanical Engineering. The 22-year-old from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal was conferred with her Honours degree at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) 2023 Autumn Graduation held at Olive Convention Centre (OCC) this afternoon (Monday, 22 May 2023).
“I enjoy problem solving, I have never found a puzzle I wanted to put down. My passion is finding answers. Mechanical Engineering allows me to do what I love and this is the second time I am graduating Cum Laude and receiving the Dean’s Merit Award as I previously graduated for my Mechanical Engineering Degree last year, 2021,” she proudly said.
She believed that the four-year journey at DUT has introduced her to many memorable people. She added that one of the challenges she faced was time management skills. To overcome this, she would write down all her tasks in order to deal with all the activities in a timeous manner.
She added that being a bursary recipient student for her degree and thereafter a National Research Foundation (NRF) recipient student for her honours Degree motivated her to excel and keep her high grades as this was the only way of funding for her studies.
The euphoric Moonsamy expressed her excitement upon learning that she would be graduating Cum Laude and receiving Dean’s Merit Award for the second time.
“It brings me great joy to know all my hard work has paid off, making my family and God extremely proud. I recalled that I called my family immediately and shared the good news with them. This is a testament for me that I should believe in myself more,” she beamed.
