Bio: Dr Sylvia Zulu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department. She has a doctorate in Afrikaans and her research was on Causality and Transitivity in Afrikaans using a Cognitive Approach. Before coming to DUT, she lectured full time at Umbumbulu College of Education and part time at the University of Zululand (Durban- Umlazi Campus). She also worked as a Quality Assurance Co-ordinator at Camperdown District Office (DOE). She is a professional translator and has translated some books into isiZulu namely, Exploring the History of Ukhahlamba Mountains by John Wright and Aron Mazel, Zola by Mark Lewis and Tanya Zack as well as Daughters of Modjadji.He research interests are in Linguistics and Translation. She has successfully supervised a number of B.Tech and Masters’ students. |

Bio: Dr Richard Hondy is the Senior Lecturer in the Department. He has a BA (Hons) from the University of the Western Cape, an MA in Applied Linguistics from Durham University in the UK and a PhD from UKZN. His current research focuses on tertiary and workplace discourse. He is the co-ordinator of a short course in language for Legal Professionals, and also runs an English Bridging course for Chinese students. He also has a position as Examiner for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with the British Council. |

Bio: Tasneem Seedat is a Lecturer in the Department of Media, Language and Communication at Durban University of Technology (DUT). With a background in television and educational content production, she began making films while a post-graduate. She has edited a wide variety of genres from documentary to reality TV, working at a number of production houses. She currently lectures Video: Theory and Practice in the Language Practice programme with her expertise in the communication field extending into the English and Communication Programme. Tasneem is an active member of the Faculty of Arts and Design representing the Department on various committees. |

Bio: Ms Cabangile Ngwane is a lecturer in the department. She has a Master’s degree in isiZulu which she obtained from UDW (UKZN) as well as another MA in Geography which is still incomplete. She also has an MBA which she obtained from MANCOSA. She taught in many different reputable schools before coming to DUT. She is lecturing Computer Usage and Language Dynamics at a BTech level, Applied First Language and IsiZulu to other levels. She is engaged community programme of assisting people to do farming to alleviate poverty. She wrote at poster for MILE symposium on “Enhancing Social Equity” where she obtained the certificate for her contribution. She also presented a paper at the DUT Institutional Research Day. She is currently working on her PhD. |

Bio: Dr Felix Awung is a Lecturer in the Language Practice Programme. He is the Programme Coordinator for Language Practice as well as Translation and Interpreting Practice. He completed his PhD at the University of the Free State, and his Master’s and undergraduate studies at the University of Buea. Dr Awung has extensive experience in teaching French as a foreign language, English as a second language and translation studies. He is also active in research and has published papers in local and international journals. . Courses Currently Teaching: French, Applied Second Language, General Language Dynamics IV . Research and Innovation focus: Translation, interpreting, language teaching and learning, language rights, language planning and sociolinguistics. |

Bio: Thabani Khumalo is a lecturer in the Department of Media, Language and Communication (MLC). He holds the following qualifications: MA: Language Practice, BTech: Translation and Interpreting Practice and ND: Translation and Interpreting Practice. He is currently registered for a PhD at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). His research focus area is on the medical interpreting services in both public and private healthcare in South Africa. He is also a member of the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA). Furthermore, he has received various awards from both the university and the industry. He enjoys teaching and always willing to learn new things everyday. . Courses Currently Teaching: Communication 101 Translation Theory and Practice 201 Translation Theory and Practice 401 Research Methodology 201 . Research and Innovation focus: Medical interpreting. |
