STUDY VISA

As prospective international student you will be required to have study visa in order to register. DUT is not permitted to register a student unless they have a valid study visa. It is important that the visa is applied for as soon as possible as it can take 6-8 weeks for the visa to be issued.

Study Visas must initially be applied for at South African Embassy, Mission or Consulate in your country of origin. You may renew your study visa at a Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) centre.

VFS offices in Durban are located at Global Suite 3, Ground Floor, 36 Silverton Road, Musgrave Durban.

MEDICAL AID

Prospective international students are in terms of the Immigration Amendment Act 19 of 2004 required to provide proof of medical cover registered under the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998. A student cannot register at DUT without providing the International Office with proof of medical aid registered under the above-mentioned Act.  It is therefore compulsory for international students to have a South African medical aid, which must be paid for upfront on an annual basis for the duration of their  studies.  Travel insurance is not sufficient for registration purposes.

Students who are awarded sponsorships must ensure that they advise their sponsors of this requirement as soon as you get sponsorship or acceptance.

Two affordable medical cover products are recommended which provide minimum basic cover as prescribed in the Medical Schemes Act of South Africa (Act No. 131 of 1998). These are specifically suited to the needs of international students viz.
