Loyiso Manyoni is proving that one’s background does not determine one’s future. Proudly coming from Inanda, a township he claims is often unfairly criticised, Manyoni has become a shining example in her township.
He graduated Cum Laude and received the Dean’s Merit award for academic excellence for his Advanced Diploma in Business Administration at Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation Ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre (OCC) on Monday, 25 May 2026.
He describes his qualification as both challenging and rewarding. Throughout his studies, he pushed himself to achieve the best possible results and was rewarded with distinctions in all his modules.
Manyoni said his success did not come easily. The pressure of maintaining high academic standards took both a physical and mental toll. Balancing demanding coursework with the need for rest was one of the greatest challenges he faced. However, he believes every sleepless night and sacrifice was worth it when he finally saw the results of his hard work.
He strongly identifies with the DUT values of Commitment and Excellence. According to Manyoni, his academic journey has always been driven by dedication to his goals, even during difficult moments.
In addition, he believes excellence is not only a goal but a habit that must be practiced daily. By striving for distinctions in every module.
For Manyoni, the most rewarding moment of his achievement was seeing the reaction of his family, especially his grandmother.
“Seeing the look in his eyes when he heard the news was incredibly moving. He was finally able to witness my success and see the results of our collective hopes and sacrifices. His pride and joy reminded me why I started this journey in the first place,” he said.
He explained that studying business administration was always his first choice because of the many career opportunities it offers. The field combines strategic planning with technical expertise, which aligns perfectly with her career aspirations.
Looking ahead, he hopes to pursue an honours degree in project management to further deepen his knowledge and skills. His ultimate goal is to build a successful career in project or financial management and make a meaningful contribution to the corporate world.
He also encouraged first-year students not to allow their background or the opinions of others to limit their dreams.
Manyoni expressed gratitude to the DUT community for creating an environment that promotes excellence and believes his achievement sends an important message to young people in his community.
