LUNGILE ZONDI EXTENDS HER HEARTFELT GRATITUDE TO DUT LECTURERS WHO PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN HER ACADEMIC JOURNEY

Through perseverance and determination, Lungile Zondi had set a remarkable standard for herself, showcasing her ability to excel in her field. This achievement was a shining reflection of her hard work and dedication, making his parents incredibly proud as she graduated with the prestigious Dean’s Merit award.

Zondi received her Advanced Diploma in Public Administration from the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) 2025 Autumn Graduation ceremony. The ceremony took place at the Indumiso Campus Hall in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 12 May 2025.

Reflecting her journey at DUT, she revealed that she had started her voyage in 2023 and qualified for an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration in 2024 from the Faculty of Management Sciences. She further mentioned that she is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration at DUT for the 2025 academic year.

The 45-year-old from Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, she described herself as a hard-working and driven individual who was not afraid to face challenges. She mentioned being passionate about her faith, her work, and her family. She added that she was an open and honest person who valued fairness and didn’t believe in misleading others.

She also shared the DUT Living values and principles she resonates with.

“I associate with the DUT values such as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability especially working in the public sector and in the daily to day life. The reason is because these values and are essential as they have shaped my behaviour, in making decisions thus building a fulfilling life. By aligning myself with these values and principles, I have developed a sense of purpose, and I have built strong relationships which contribute positively to the society at large.”

Graduating with Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit Award showed her dedication. With a demanding full-time job and studies, the journey was filled with late nights and emotional highs and lows. Yet, her commitment to excellence paid off, reaping distinctions and a newfound confidence that would drive her towards achieving success.

“My current role in the public sector has sparked a desire to pursue Public Management, as I believe it will equip me with the essential tools to optimise resource allocation, ensure efficient project execution, and enhance service delivery. By acquiring these skills, I aim to contribute to the success of government projects and programmes and make a meaningful impact in the public sector. In 2026, i am planning to do study towards my master’s degree,” she added.

Zondi is currently serving as Personal Assistant to the Director of the Road Traffic Inspectorate at the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Transport. She stated that her aim would be to lead the department in achieving its strategic objectives from a leadership position. She also aims to ensure that the department’s performance was monitored and evaluated to guarantee the government’s mandate was fulfilled to improve the lives of the people.

Zondi’s advice to first-year students was to cultivate dedication and a passion for learning. She guided them to stay informed, develop strong communication, skills, leadership skills, and to gain hands-on experience through internships. By being adaptable and committed to lifelong learning, she empowered them to thrive in the dynamic public sector.

“I am deeply humbled by this achievement, and I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the lecturers who played a crucial role in my academic journey. I’m grateful for their support, and I give all to the glory to God,” she concluded.
