MAKE WISE CAREER CHOICES AND BE INFORMED ABOUT AVAILABLE FUNDING – DUT CAREER RESOURCE CENTRE

It is the beginning of the new year, and it is imperative that students make wise career choices and be informed about different funding available.

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Career Resource Centre in Midlands is one that is concerned with the widespread sharing of accurate information about careers that are offered at the DUT. They provide invaluable information about funding, bursaries and scholarships for prospective and registered students.

“The Career Resource Centre is a unique library that is dedicated to the housing of updated and current career-related information. Its primary role is to provide critical support to registered and prospective students in their pursuit of employment,” explained Sindisiwe Dlamini, Career Resource Officer.

Dlamini went on to mention the below services that the Career Resource Centre specialise on which includes:

  • Specialised career information
  • National and international courses and qualifications
  • Bursary and scholarship information
  • Work skills information
  • Company information
  • Economic and job market information
  • Computer access for CV writing
  • Email and internal access for job information and applications
  • Study skills and exam preparation

The Career Resource Office is also involved in the development of communities in line with the institutions’ ENVISION2030.

“The office does this by providing career guidance workshops to various schools and non-profit organisations that are found within and around the jurisdiction of the Msunduzi Municipality. We provide the learners which are our prospective students with CAO forms and handbooks from the Durban University of Technology,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini went on to say that in 2021, the Career Resource Office visited the International Bethal Ministries and Zibukezulu High School to administer a career guidance workshop.

They further engaged with the following NPO`s: Carriers of Youth Development NPO, Mzansi Youth in business NPO and the Funda after school programme providing career information to prospective Durban University of Technology students and the community.

They also collaborated with the Msunduzi Municipality in hosting their annual career guidance workshop to provide career-related information to the schools that are in the municipality.
