For Makhanya graduating Cum Laude was a significant achievement especially after the challenges she faced during her first year of studying when she had to adapt to online learning due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She described her journey as a transformative and enlightening experience filled with challenges, triumphs, and moments of profound personal growth.

“The academics were demanding, pushing me to delve deeper into subjects that initially seemed daunting. Yet, with each passing semester, I found myself more engaged, eager to absorb knowledge and contribute to discussions. My journey at DUT have not only enriched my academic journey but have also shaped me into a more confident and compassionate individual,” said Makhanya.

Her achievement has left her family and friends excited, proud and looking forward to seeing her walking on the stage.

Makhanya added that graduating Cum Laude served as a testament of hard work and dedication. She is hoping to gain more experience in the IT field.

“My aim in terms of my career path is to become a proficient and innovative web developer. I aim to leverage my skills in coding, design, and problem solving to create engaging and user-friendly website and applications,” added Makhanya.

She is currently enrolled for her Honuor’s degree in Information and Communication Technology while working as an intern for a company called Zaio Technologies.

Advising students in her field, Makhanya emphasized the importance of using the resources available on campus, whether it’s academic support services, extracurricular activities, and networking opportunities and to remember that in IT learning does not end in class. She recommended that they ask for help when needed and believe in themselves and abilities.
