Sibusiso Malinga (26) popularly known as ‘Mswati’ from Mkhondo, Mpumalanga Province graduated Cum Laude and obtained the prestigious Dean’s Merit Award for his Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) 2024 Autumn Graduation, held at Indumisocampus, Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 14 May 2024.

Malinga expressed that graduating with Cum Laudeand being awarded with the Dean’s Merit Award holds immense significance for him.

“I am very happy and honoured. This qualification symbolises the hard work and effort I have put towards my studies. I believe that my inspiration to contribute positively to people’s lives through offering valuable assistance and information whenever needed also contributed to my sterling results . Staying positive throughout challenges assisted me a lot and I would love to give thanks to God for making all this possible,” expressed Malinga.

He further credited this achievement to his family for their steadfast support.

“I would like to express gratitude to my family, with a special acknowledgment to my mother, siblings, and uncle, for their support throughout my academic journey,” he added.

Speaking about his journey at DUT, Malinga highlighted that it has been remarkably incredible, presented with a lot of opportunities that have contributed positively to his personal growth and development.

“I have been engaged in a diverse array of activities within the institution that has enriched my university experience. The Department of Student Housing and Residence Life in the Midlands offered me the opportunity to be House Committee member, Assistance Residence Advisor and Residence Advisor and I was also an academic tutor within the Department of Public Management. All these played a pivotal role for both interpersonal and leadership skills expanding my horizons and deepening my connection to the DUT community,” he explained.

Malinga is currently studying towards his Master’s Degree and wishes to continue excelling academically.

He congratulated all the graduates and emphasised that it is important to approach life with curiosity, passion, and commitment to lifelong learning in whatever path they choose.

“Education does not end with graduation, this is just the beginning of an exciting journey of discovery and growth,” he concluded.
