Zanele Masengemu graduated Cum Laude for her Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology Autumn Graduation which was held at the Olive Convention Centre on Thursday, 23 May 2024.
Masengemu from Ezakheni, KwaZulu-Natal, described her journey as a transformative experience that shaped her into a confident and resilient individual.
“One of the most significant highlights of my journey was when we got invited to Ballito for an award ceremony as the best achievers, that experience taught me the value of hard work. I also had the opportunity to work with my incredible lecturers who guided me and helped me grow both academically and professionally. As I reflect on my stay at DUT I am proud of the person I have become and the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired,” she shared.
The young academic shared that through hard work, passion and determination, she was able to pass exceptionally well.
“Graduating Cum Laude is a remarkable accomplishment that showcases hard work, dedication and academic excellence. It’s a significant milestone that demonstrates the ability to succeed in challenging environments and sets you up for future success. Graduating with honour is a testament to my commitment to learning and my ability to balance academic responsibilities with other aspects of my life,” said Masengemu.
She had encountered challenges and had to develop self-motivation and discipline while learning to navigate through the increased freedom and responsibility.
Her family’s reaction has been one of unwavering support, love and celebration.
“My mother has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation, when she had heard her eyes were filled with tears of joy. She said I have made her the proudest parent alive and that her heart is filled with immense joy. My family was very happy and there were proud declarations, they started making celebration plans then and there,” she said.
She is currently doing her Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. With her future endeavours she is hoping to gain workplace experience and more knowledge while continuing with her studies.
