Mbhele’s Passion For Food Earns Her Cum Laude

Mbhele’s Passion For Food Earns Her Cum Laude

“After hearing the good news on my achievement, I just felt so grateful, blessed and honoured that all my hard work has been recognised. I am so motivated to continue to study further and work hard,” said the delighted Mbali Happiness Mbhele.

The Durban University of Technology food connoisseur obtained her BTech in Consumer Science: Food and Nutrition, with Cum Laude, an accolade she is no stranger to.
In 2016, she had completed her National Diploma in Consumer Science and graduated also with Cum Laude and has yet again proved she is a force to be reckoned with.

For Mbhele, she always knew that this was her field of study since she had a passion for food, science, creativity and entrepreneurship. “I just want to thank mostly God for providing me with the strength to be able to complete my studies exceptionally, and to thank all my family, friends and my lecturers for all their support they gave me to do extremely well in my studies,” she added.
Her journey was not an easy one with no laptop, just a USB which she had her work on and take to the library on campus to print her assignments. Sometimes she stayed until late at night in the library, studying for tests and exams. Also, having role models such as her amazing, strong mom and the support of her Food Science lecture Dr Naicker, allowed her to achieve her goals.

Mbhele is currently applying to study towards her Master’s Degree in Consumer Science: Food and Nutrition and hopes to have her own successful company one day that will play a role in giving back to the community.
Her advice to future students who want to embark in this field of study is to pursue their passion. “Follow your dreams, trust in God and believe in yourself and last but not least working hard indeed pays the most,” she said.
