MEET INAM MBIZWENI: DUT’S NEW SRC ORGANISATIONS AND ACCOMMODATION OFFICER

From the vibrant streets of Khayelitsha to the forefront of student leadership, Inam Tania Mbizweni now steps forward as the newly elected SRC Organisations and Accommodation Officer at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

Mbizweni’s journey into student leadership reflects resilience, service, and a student-first mindset. Currently pursuing her Bachelor of Journalism, she is driven by a passion for accountability and amplifying the voices of those often unheard.

Born and raised in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, and originally from Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape, Mbizweni’s background has shaped her into a grounded and socially conscious young woman. Her experiences across provinces exposed her to the realities many black students face, strengthening her resolve to be part of the solution.

Her journey in student politics began in her first year, motivated not by personal ambition but by the challenges confronting her peers. What started as a response to hardship soon became a calling. Today, Mbizweni describes herself as a leader guided by empathy, commitment, and a deep responsibility toward student welfare.

Before her SRC election, she actively contributed to student activism and played a meaningful role in addressing issues affecting her peers. Now, as SRC Organisations and Accommodation Officer, she is committed to creating safe, functional, and supportive living environments while empowering societies, clubs, and student structures to thrive.

“Leadership is not just about holding a position; it’s about serving others, standing up when it’s needed, and making a tangible difference in the lives of those around you. Every student’s voice matter, and it is my responsibility to ensure it is heard,” said Mbizweni.

Mbizweni’s story highlights the power of courage, conviction, and community-driven leadership. Her journey continues to inspire young women and student leaders who believe in creating change through compassion and purpose.

She extends heartfelt gratitude to all DUT students for entrusting her with this responsibility, “Thank you for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to serve you. I promise to work tirelessly to represent your voices and ensure that your needs are prioritised,” she expressed.

Congratulations to Inam Mbizweni on her appointment as SRC Organisations and Accommodation Officer. Your leadership lights the way for many others.
