A 22-year-old Mikayla Jugpaul from Chatsworth, Durban was grateful to graduate Cum Laude for her Diploma in Shipping Logistics t the 2023 DUT Spring Graduation held at the Olive Convention Centre, Durban on Monday, 18 September 2023.
She expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, and lectures for always guiding her in the right direction and for motivating her to do her best.
For Jugpaul graduating Cum Laude was such a great achievement especially after the challenges she faced during her first year of study due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“My journey in DUT and towards my future career was a rollercoaster of events and emotions. It all started it 2020 when I was living my best campus life, meeting new people, and creating a better university experience for myself. I found myself become passionate and determined towards my course and modules. However, in March 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic had spread which led to all universities becoming online. It was extremely difficult to focus and stay on track with modules and online lectures. It was easy to fall behind without proper determination, I managed to stay focus ,” said Jugpaul.
However, with great friends, lecturers, and consistency, Jugpal shared she managed to do extremely well in her Diploma. She noted determination, hard work and guidance as her success factors.
Her accolade has left her family and friends proud as she is one of the first people to have graduated in her family and friend groups.
“ Whilst most people were driven into the medical field , I always had a keen interest in Shipping and Logistics which is why I chose this specific career path. I am currently working in my career field, and I’m focused on getting more experience in this field right now. I do hope to one day extend my studies,” shared Jugpaul.
She aims to gain as much experience in all departments in the Shipping and Logistics industry, to gain the knowledge and skills to be able to take on any challenge and any position that comes her way.
Advising first year students in her field, Jugpaul stressed studies can become difficult, and things can be stressful at times. However, with having encouraging people by your side, consistency, and hard work one can do extremely well. She urged them to never doubt themselves and always strive for the best because that’s what they deserve.
