It was a proud moment for 19-year-old Thandeka Mchunu, the current Miss DUT GCI and Financial Accounting student when she added another accolade to her name and was crowned the Face of Assupol Ekasi KZN.

The Assupol Ekasi KZN pageant’s core aim is to allow more people in society, through such pageants, to partake in charity work and give back to those who are in need.

The beauty pageant is also intended to help young women in communities to build their self-esteem as models and be proud of who they are and where they come from.

Mchunu said she didn’t expect to be chosen as the winner as the competition was very tough, and it came as a big shock when they announced her as the Queen.

“I couldn’t hold my tears back because of the shock and happiness. I am so overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity given to me by Assopul and the organisers. Being Miss Assupol Ekasi KZN means a great deal to me and I will give it my all to represent and be a great ambassador,” said the elated Mchunu.

Mchunu has also participated in numerous, other beauty pageants and she feels that none of them were of such a high calibre as the Assupol Ekasi KZN pageant. For her, the two competitions she has been crowned queen are in line with the principles and values that are similar to hers.

“Being Miss Assupol Ekasi KZN means caring and being charitable as Assupol is partly about giving back to those who are in need without expecting something in return, which is what I am all about. It also means being responsible because I am now the ambassador for the brand,” said Mchunu.

Mchunu said she is not planning to enter any further competitions for this year but will be entering more competitions, next year, (2018).

“My goal for this year is to be the greatest ambassador for both DUT GCI and Assupol Ekasi KZN,” she said.
