MTSHALI BAGS 29 DISTINCTIONS AND GRADUATES CUM LAUDE AND OBTAINS HIS DEAN’S MERIT AWARD

Zabelo Mtshali (21), from Ulundi, Mahlabathini D Section and SiShwili area graduated Cum Laude and obtained his Deans Merit Award at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Celebratory Autumn graduation at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on Thursday, 14 July 2022.

Mtshali knew from a very young age that he had a desire to learn Accounting and that is why he chose Internal Auditing. He was very excited when he got the firm offer for a Diploma in Internal Auditing, he could not thank God enough for the opportunity he obtained because he used to see his peers taking gap years.

Since the very beginning of his study path, he has prioritising his academic excellence, obtaining good marks and gathering as much knowledge as he can. He has made his family proud by obtaining Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit award, especially his mother who has always been his driving force. Entering the institution with an optimistic mindset is what Mtshali did and the results he received proved that.

“I am a living proof that hard work pays. The time I saw that I have passed with not only Cum Laude but also obtain the Dean’s Merit award, was blissful and surprising to me, that’s why I am very excited. I am proud of myself and this proves that dreaming big and putting in the hard work can make those dreams come true,” he said.

Speaking of his journey at DUT, he commented that it was amazing and full of lessons. He had the most amazing classmates of which they shared similar goals of obtaining good grades and furthering their studies.

“My life took a sharp curve when I lost my mom, every time I achieve something good I always remember that my mom would be so proud of me. However, my 93-year-old grandmother is always by my side, she is here to celebrate with me even though she was not feeling well. I believe that losing my mother taught me to be independent and go beyond what I thought were my fears and limitations,” he said.

The amazing lecturers and tutors Mtshali had met at DUT contributed immensely to the escalation of his love he began to have for the choice of study, obtaining 29 distinctions. He also appreciated the fact that the university was able to make the means to ensure the academic year is not compromised when the pandemic struck.
