NAIDOO ATTRIBUTES HARD WORK FOR GRADUATING CUM LAUDE

Sheer dedication, persistence and keeping the end goal in mind earned Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Kyle Naidoo outstanding academic results for his Degree of Bachelor of Technology: Civil Engineering.

Naidoo who hails from Pietermaritzburg, graduated Cum Laude this morning at the DUT Fred Crookes Sports Centre in Durban. Reflecting on his results, Naidoo said putting effort into his studies was the only way to achieve academic excellence.

“University is easy, you just have to put in the work and you will see the results. Time is precious, don’t waste time fooling around, you will regret it in the end,” said Naidoo.

“Be determined, motivated and never give up. If you truly want to achieve a goal you can, all you have to do is work towards it,” added Naidoo.

Before enrolling at the DUT, Naidoo studied at ML Sultan Secondary School, where he says subjects such as Civil Technology propelled him to pursue a career in Civil Engineering.

“We did a project where we had to design and build a scale model of a double story sports clubhouse. I knew since then that I wanted to be a Civil Engineer, you get to experience your work being built and at the same time your work is making a difference in society, that’s a great feeling,” explained Naidoo.

Naidoo said he has been academically inclined since his primary and secondary school days. He admitted that he couldn’t have achieved such results without the support of those close to him.

“When doing my BTech I knew I wanted to do well. It wasn’t easy due to me working and studying. However, I am a determined individual that’s driven to always better myself and succeed in life,” added Naidoo.

Naidoo is currently working for a Civil Engineering consultancy firm as a technician where he focuses mostly on water projects. He aspires to become a Professional Engineering Technologist and plans to further his studies in Civil Engineering.
