Nokonwabisa Ngele from Dassenhoek in Durban, graduated Cum Laude for her Advanced Diploma in Business Information Management at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) on Wednesday, 24 May 2023.
The 23-year-old thanked her family, friends, and lecturers for their support throughout her academic journey. She added that her lecturers introduced new challenges that enabled her to grow and develop mentally and professionally.
“My friends have believed in me and kept pushing me even when I felt like giving up, lastly if it was not because of my family, I would not be holding this qualification. They were there to motivate me constantly and believe in me. May God bless all of them,” said Ngele.
Ngele explained that she was driven by her desire for success. She described herself as a strongly motivated individual that is determined to achieve her goals and attain a certain level of accomplishment or recognition. This has led to Ngele being goal-orientated and resilient. For Ngele, the goal is to reach a PhD level.
According to Ngele, success means having the financial freedom to live comfortably and take care of loved ones and it also means giving back to the community and making a difference.
Initially, Ngele was indecisive career-wise but the BIM programme provided her with the opportunity to explore various modules in its curriculum such as HR, Project Management, Law, and Accounting.
“During my third year and Advanced level of study, I did my Work Integrated Learning (WIL)at the Department of Radiography and did my internship at Business School. These programmes gave me a hands-on experience in the world of work, which provided me with professional growth and helped me understand where my strengths lie. Overall, my journey at DUT provided me with opportunities for personal growth and career advancement. I experienced increased independence as I navigated living away from home and making important life decisions,” explained Ngele.
The focused Ngele encouraged students to never stop learning, be open-minded and establish relationships with lecturers, tutors, or classmates.
