NGUBANE AIMS TO CREATE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN AT LEAST ONE LEARNER’S LIFE IN HER JOURNEY OF TEACHING

Luyanda Amahle Ngubane, from Ashdown in Pietermaritzburg is all smiles upon hearing she is graduating with distinction.

Ngubane graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Education at Durban University of Technology’s Midlands Campus in Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 13 May 2024.

“I am extremely proud and honoured to have attained this distinction and I see it  as a testament to the effort and perseverance I have invested in my education. It is a milestone I will forever cherish and a stepping stone for my future,” she expressed.

Ngubane says her parents are also incredibly proud of her and if it was up to her mom to announce this, the whole world would know of this achievement,” she laughed.

Ngubane gave a glimpse into her journey at DUT which she shared has been both challenging and rewarding. “Academically, I have had the opportunity to explore into subjects I’m passionate about and expand my knowledge base in the world of languages. During the years I spent at DUT I have gained a number of skills that have prepared me for the evolving educational landscape. DUT has played a major part in shaping me into the person I am today, I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities it has provided,” added Ngubane.

Having embodied DUT’s values integrity and honesty, she strongly believes in taking responsibility of her actions and striving to do the right thing even when it’s difficult.

“I believe that by embodying honesty and integrity in my behaviour, I am not only fostering trust and credibility with others but also contributing to DUT’s culture of honesty and integrity, particularly within the classroom,” she said.

Ngubane indicated that as an educator it’s essential to align with DUT’s principles including compassion, which emphasises kindness, empathy, and understanding towards others.

Initially during her matric year she did not apply for this course but she only got to apply for it the following year as a late application. “I believe this course chose me because I had never thought of being a teacher before starting my journey at DUT,” she explained.

Going forward, Ngubane, who is an IsiZulu educator at Eastwood Secondary School,  is keen to obtain an honours degree and also add Math literacy as one of her teaching subjects.

“My main aim is to create a positive impact in at least one learner’s life in my journey of teaching and also gain a higher position in the teaching sector,” she said.
