For Siphesihle Nhlebela who wanted to study Accounting or Auditing at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) but due to her meagre Mathematics, enrolled for her Diploma in Business and Information Management at the Riverside Campus of which she believes was God’s purpose.
Nhlebela has had a great experience at DUT and believes that it is every learner’s dream to achieve their study goals.
“My journey at DUT has been nothing but amazing, I have been active in everything that I do. One of my best years was 2019 which was my first year. I think the excitement drove me to work hard and look forward to achieving great marks. I was so fortunate to have friends that wanted to succeed as much as I did. We would work till late, meet up and try and recognise each other’s strengths and work on them to have excellent group work. Besides my friends, I am truly grateful to have Mr TR Ncube who is my lecturer and a mentor. He encouraged us to be perfect in everything we did, and you could tell he believed in us,” she said.
For Nhlebela, she always told herself from the first year that every test or assignment she was going to pass with 75 and above. She said anything below she would consider as a fail. She really thinks that mind-set really helped her in obtaining Cum Laude.
She will be graduating with Cum Laude with her Diploma in Business and Information Management at the Olympia Hall, The Royal Show Grounds, Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 25 July 2022.
Nhlebela who hails from Nquthu in Kwazulu-Natal is very excited about the physical graduation as she is looking forward to her family seeing her walk on stage. She is also looking to pursue and develop her passion of tutoring, especially with first year students. She has been a tutor since 2020 to date and would also love to become a lecturer one day.
The long-term goal for Nhlebela in terms of her career path is to work towards owning her own business.
